Tiger Woods to Return at WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship

The wait is over. Tiger Woods announced today on his website that he will return to competitive golf next week at the WGC- Accenture Match Play Championship. Woods will play world #64 Brendan Jones in his first competitive round since year ending knee surgery after last year's US Open. The event has a new home this year, The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain, in Marana, Ariz.. Naturally, Woods defends.

  1. The knee should hold up fine for Tiger, but is it fully healed.

In this situation, I think like I would during a fantasy football draft. That is, I won't draft a player coming off knee surgery (ACL, MCL, etc...) until the next season, for it truly takes 18 months for that knee to be fully healed.

But like I've commented on other blogs, perhaps Woods is the anomaly.

  2. Woods is unique in that respect. I'd go with if he says it's fine, it's fine. I guess the true test would be if he makes the weekend 36 hole rounds.

I'll think he'll win. After all, he's the prohibitive favorite every time he tees it up.
